CTI Receives $200,000 Grant from Arthur Vining Davis Foundations

The Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI), a partnership among the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Davidson College and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation to support its iniatives to strengthen local public schools.

CTI is an initiative designed to strengthen teaching in area schools by cultivating content-knowledge, creativity, leadership skills, and collaboration within and among Charlotte’s public school teachers. Through seminars, led by college/university faculty, CMS teachers learn new content, work collaboratively with other teachers, and develop new curricula for their students.

“The generous support from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations will enable the Charlotte Teachers Institute to provide more innovative programming, and it will ensure CTI’s high-quality, professional development reaches more public school teachers, providing a benefit to their students,” said Molly Shaw, M.Ed., founding director of CTI. “This is a transformational gift that will help improve public education in Charlotte in the short-term and for the future.”
