CHESS Unveils a New Strategic Plan

The College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences, CHESS, unveiled a new strategic plan on Oct. 17 and hosted a launch party to celebrate the new direction for the College.

As part of the plan, the College also released new CHESS mission, vision and values statements.

The strategic plan puts forth the “CHESS Promise” that every student majoring in a CHESS program of study has the opportunity to participate in a high-impact learning experience, such as an internship, study abroad, service learning or other experiential education.

In the Research section, the plan codifies the College’s role in addressing the pursuit of cultural, social and environmental knowledge, or the “Very Important Questions” of the world today.

The plan also outlines how CHESS makes a commitment to the well-being of our interconnected community.

Making the Next Move: 2025-2033 is the culmination of a year of effort. Last fall, the CHESS Faculty Council assembled a six-member planning committee who worked alongside CHESS Founding Dean Chris Boyer with the assistance of facilitator Sharon McDade, of Greenwood Asher and Associates. They surveyed faculty, administrators, staff and students to inform the plan and incorporated feedback through multiple rounds of revisions.

The six member strategic planning holds copies of the plan.
