CHESS Faculty Named Gambrell Fellows
Two faculty from the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences have been named to the 2026 class of Gambrell Faculty Fellows.
The Gambrell Faculty Fellowship at UNC Charlotte is administered through the Charlotte Urban Institute with support through a grant from the Gambrell Foundation. This is the seventh cohort of Gambrell Fellows selected at UNC Charlotte.
Helen Davies, assistant professor of English, and Marianna B. Ganapini, associate professor of philosophy, are both joint faculty members with the School of Data Science. They are teaming up with Sijia Qian, assistant professor in the School of Data Science, to explore artificial intelligence and digital literacy in the Charlotte region.
Their project will “study all aspects of AI use, including its environmental impact on communities, ethical considerations, and the importance of public literacy about its benefits and potential pitfalls.” Read more about their project.
Davies and Ganapini add to the growing list of current CHESS faculty who have been in previous cohorts of Gambrell Fellows, including: Vaughn Schmutz, Janaka Lewis, Stephanie Potochnick, Kendra Jason, Joanne Carman, Michael Ewers, Kristina Shull, Michelle Zuñiga, Katherine Idziorek, Sharon Watson, Isabelle Nilsson, Bianca Reisdorf and Jennifer Hartman.
