Bobby Hobgood receives SCOLT Founders Award
Bobby Hobgood, director of UNC Charlotte’s Language Resource Center and adjunct instructor of French, has been honored with the Founders Award from the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT).
Hobgood received the award March 20 during the 2026 SCOLT Conference, held March 19–21 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Founders Award recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to SCOLT and exemplifies the spirit and ideals of the organization’s founders.
The SCOLT Board of Directors noted that Hobgood was awarded for his efforts to promote world language learning. This award adds to Hobgood’s growing list of accolades. In 2017 he was awarded the SCOLT Educator of Excellence Award for post-secondary education. In 2016, Hobgood was recognized with the Honorary Life Membership Award from Fostering Language Acquisition in North Carolina, the state level of the group.
“I am humbled by this recognition from the Southern Conference on Language Teaching. SCOLT has afforded me many opportunities for self-growth, and in turn, opportunities to support the growth of my students and my profession,“ Hobgood said. “This award validates my practice of postponing personal satisfaction in order to revel in the growth of our students, our colleagues and our profession.”
SCOLT is a professional organization representing 13 southern states. They are dedicated to promoting universal world language education that is supported by communities, valued by leaders, encouraged by families and peers, and taught by exemplary instructors.
