As competition for talent heats up worldwide, UNC Charlotte researcher Qingfang Wang has identified critical factors that appear to give some communities a competitive edge. Wang’s research considers highly skilled immigrants and immigrant entrepreneurs – what attracts them, what fosters their growth and what deters them from fully using their skills and knowledge.

UNC Charlotte students this summer are creating an innovative theatrical production that combines works of two significant playwrights, while delving into topics including diversity, theatrical performance, language, history and the craft of writing. These students are studying in England, collaborating with Kingston University students, British theater professionals and a UNC Charlotte scholar.

During a spring break studying abroad for nine days in England alongside 15 other students in UNC Charlotte’s ‘Shakespeare in England’ class, undergraduate Lauren Dockery learned to live in the moment and to leave familiarity behind.

A UNC Charlotte graduate student team has moved one step closer to a $1 million prize in funding to launch a sustainable social venture, in the world’s largest student competition and start-up platform for social good. The Hult Prize Foundation recently announced that the UNC Charlotte team had advanced to the regional finals of the fifth annual Hult Prize.

This summer’s excavation at the Mount Zion dig site in the city of Jerusalem has offered 18 UNC Charlotte students, as well as faculty and staff, a rare opportunity to conduct research at an ancient site with religious and historical significance.

30 German majors from UNC Charlotte are studying in Germany this summer and in the 2013-14 academic year. Each student received a $2,000 scholarship to undertake immersive language study in a German-speaking country at one of the locations of the prestigious Goethe Institute. Kurt Waldthausen, founder and president of the GLCF, presented the scholarships.
