Harry Gilliard will take with him a foundational belief in the positive potential of diversity, as he heads to Brazil in 2020 through a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Gilliard completed his bachelor’s degree in meteorology in 2011 at UNC Charlotte.

Two College of Liberal Arts & Sciences alumni and one retired academic leader were honored on April 5 at the University Alumni Awards Celebration, which celebrated seven awardees overall.

UNC Charlotte psychology alumna Laura Clark has been named the head of the United Way of Central Carolinas, which announced her as its new president and chief executive officer effective September 7. Clark became the sixth leader in the organization’s 86-year history. She earned a master’s degree in clinical/community psychology from UNC Charlotte and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Appalachian State University.

The Greater Charlotte Apartment Association has named UNC Charlotte alumna Kim S. Graham as its new executive director. Graham earned a Master of Public Administration degree from UNC Charlotte and most recently served as senior vice president of outreach and fund development with The Housing Partnership, a Charlotte-based housing nonprofit corporation.

UNC Charlotte’s young alumni are making marks in their fields and in the community, as evidenced by the inaugural 10 Under Ten Award winners, including two alumni from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. These alumni epitomize what it means to give back and pay it forward, and they credit UNC Charlotte with providing the foundation to do so.
