Alumna Grows Interest in Food Issues; Uses Liberal Arts Skills in Advocacy

Robin Emmons never anticipated the fame her social justice advocacy would bring to her Charlotte-area nonprofit, Sow Much Good. Emmons nurtures her national and regional honors as intentionally as she does the bees, chickens, and produce on her farm sites. They are a way to further the cause and increase awareness of food access and issues of social justice in marginalized communities.

Alumni, Executive in Residence Intent on Inspiring Innovation Leaders

The innovation leaders of tomorrow can be found in the writing classes of today. Of this, Henry Doss is sure. For students to realize their potential, however, they must first grasp the power of language and reflection, Doss believes. Doss (B.A. ’77) has devoted much of his time to this vision in his two years as the volunteer Executive in Residence with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

A venture capitalist with a solid grounding in the liberal arts and a quarter-century experience in business has joined UNC Charlotte’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as its first executive in residence.

Nationally-Honored Alumna Author To Provide Public Talk Oct. 4

A nationally recognized author and UNC Charlotte alumna will continue her visit at UNC Charlotte on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 with a public lecture and classroom visits.

Stephanie Powell Watts started her visit on Oct. 3 with a workshop with students. She guided students through a writing exercise, disucssed her writing process and provided tips on writing submissions to journals and other publications.
