Constitution Day & Citizenship Day

Each year, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte joins organizations across the nation by recognizing Constitution and Citizenship Day with a special presentation for students and community members. The federal holiday was formally established in 2005, to recognize the signing of the US Constitution on September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia, PA. It is an extension of the original holiday, Citizenship Day, which was signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 and other state-level observances before that.

National, State and Public Parks — and the Congressional Acts and People that
Protect Them

The city of Charlotte has been lauded as an outdoor-friendly home to over 900,000 people, who have access to parkland on more than 22,500 acres across Mecklenburg County. Come learn about the history of our local, state and national parks, the Congressional Acts that protect them (and their limitations), and the statute that created the National Park Service. Find out, too, what it means to have public personnel steward the protection and maintenance of public lands. Museum curator Phil Varela will join by Zoom.
