Academic Honor Societies
Students in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences may be invited to join prestigious academic honor societies, offering another point of engagement for our alumni and communities in the Greater Charlotte area. Please visit their sites for more information:
The Phi Beta Kappa Society is devoted to excellence in the Liberal Arts and Sciences, the academic subjects examining the history, structure, and meaning of the natural world and of the human experience. Liberal, derived from the Latin word liberalis, refers to freedom, the freedom to explore, to think, and to discuss important issues without being bound by illegitimate restraints.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest, largest, and most selective honor society to recognize and promote excellence in all academic disciplines. It is an honor society which draws members from all academic disciplines within colleges and universities. Each year, approximately 34,000 students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni are initiated.
