What is FIT?

The 49er Intensive Transition Program (FIT) is an immersive experience that introduces you to the campus community, familiarizes you with Charlotte’s support services, and encourages collaborative study with your peers. Through our specialized cohort model, we’ve crafted distinct pathways to ensure your smooth transition into UNC Charlotte. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program—each cohort is tailor-made.

The CHESS-FIT Program is open to any first-year or transfer student who intends to major in a discipline within the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences or is undecided. Participation in CHESS-FIT allows students to move into their fall housing assignment one week early, be enrolled in a Hybrid 3-credit hour course, be assigned a peer mentor, meet campus partners to learn about campus resources, be introduced to academic support services and tools for success in college, receive introductory skills aimed to equip them for success in their major, and be exposed to student engagement opportunities on campus.

Please review the tentative schedule for CHESS-FIT.

Applications will be available each spring for the fall semester.
