Tanure Ojaide, Frank Porter Graham Distinguished Professor of Africana Studies at UNC Charlotte, has received a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship from the Institute of International Education to share his expertise with students and faculty in Africa.

Edward S. Perzel, 81, professor emeritus in the UNC Charlotte Department of History, passed away on June 16, 2020, in Bristol, Tenn. Perzel served as chair of the Department of History, president of the faculty at the university, and associate dean of what was then called the College of Arts and Sciences.

An interdisciplinary team from UNC Charlotte has received a $29,000 Research Grant in the Arts from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for the project “Arts-based social mobility: Exploring cultural capital in Charlotte, NC.” Sociology Associate Professor Vaughn Schmutz will lead the team, which includes faculty and staff from the College of Arts + Architecture.
