Janna Shedd, Tonya Bates and Robin James have received the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ 2015 Teaching Awards for their dedication, teaching and research contributions and lasting impact on students.

Joe Kuhns is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Paula Connolly of the Department of English is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Robin James of the Department of Philosophy is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Janna Shedd of Religious Studies is one of three nominees for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Award the Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty Member. She has been a faculty member at UNC Charlotte since 2009.

Lawrence Blydenburgh of Criminal Justice and Criminology is one of three finalists for the College’s Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty Member Award. Blydenburgh began teaching at UNC Charlotte in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology in 2004.

Allison Hutchcraft of English is one of three nominees for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Award the Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty Member. She teaches introductory, intermediate, and advanced creative writing courses in poetry and fiction.

Sue Hodge of Criminal Justice and Criminology is one of three nominees for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Full-Time Lecturer. Hodge currently teaches undergraduate level courses which include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Ethics.

As positive reviews continue to come in for UNC Charlotte’s University Writing Program’s first community-wide writing conference in 2014, planners are looking toward a fall 2015 event.

With deep sadness, the college notes the death of longtime faculty member James Holt McGavran, Jr., Professor of English, who passed away on Dec. 20, 2014. A visitation will be held at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home in Charlotte on Friday, Dec. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., and a funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Charlotte at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27.
