In recognition of its focus on teaching and student learning, the Department of Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is the 2015 recipient of the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Professor of Biological Sciences Stanley Schneider is the 2015 recipient of the Bank America Award for Teaching Excellence, one of UNC Charlotte’s most prestigious honors.

Beth Whitaker, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, was honored on September 18 as one of five finalists for the 2015 Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence.

For their outstanding teaching work, two UNC Charlotte graduate students from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences have received the 2015 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards from the Graduate School and Center for Graduate Life.

Janna Shedd, Tonya Bates and Robin James have received the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ 2015 Teaching Awards for their dedication, teaching and research contributions and lasting impact on students.

Joe Kuhns is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Paula Connolly of the Department of English is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Robin James of the Department of Philosophy is one of three nominees for the College’s Integration of Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award.

Janna Shedd of Religious Studies is one of three nominees for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Award the Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty Member. She has been a faculty member at UNC Charlotte since 2009.

Lawrence Blydenburgh of Criminal Justice and Criminology is one of three finalists for the College’s Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty Member Award. Blydenburgh began teaching at UNC Charlotte in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology in 2004.
